Our Perspective

How we see Trico LivingWell

A superlative midrise showing a company that’s fervently progressive in anticipating the needs of today’s seniors into the coming years. It's the kind of seniors’ building you definitely want to move to. People are effusive about it and run out of adjectives in their reviews.

Here’s a brief look at why. Trico is suitably proud of creating a wellness culture here, seen in the built-in air quality system, and features like living walls, a rooftop garden, and several patios. It’s also seen in the presence of recreational therapists, fitness specialists, dieticians, art instructors, and more. Walk in here to wide, bright spaces. There’s a well-stocked bistro, a piano lounge, spacious dining, a well-equipped games area, a creative studio, and a fitness centre with the latest exercise equipment. Suites are all just as beautiful and spacious.

Meals are prepared by an award-winning chef, demonstrably passionate about creating great food from fresh ingredients, in appetizers, entrees, and desserts that delight. That passion carries over to servers. In fact, you’ll find all of the staff professional and enthusiastic. All of this works together to create a place that will make you happy and grateful every day, the kind of setting that brings out the best in everyone.

Trico LivingWell is ideal for seniors who remain excited by life’s possibilities. There are a lot here! We’ll add lifelong learning and programming, choice amenities, and the care options that extend to care for those with Alzheimer’s and dementia. Choose to age in place, here, ideal for older Calgarians who want the very best in life.

Community’s Perspective

How Trico LivingWell sees itself

Who are you as a community?

Trico LivingWell is a retirement community in South Calgary offering independent living, assisted living, and memory care for older adults. Trico LivingWell is the first retirement community in Canada to pursue a WELL v2 Certification, a performance-based rating system for buildings with features that enhance health and wellness. What do you do differently or uniquely well?

At Trico LivingWell, wellness surrounds everything we do - it’s our culture. We are the first older adult community in Canada pursuing Well V2 certification. We have integrated all aspects of the building and management process to achieve the features of the international WELL Building Standard, creating spaces that improves the nutrition, fitness, mood, sleep patterns, and performance of its occupants.

Wellness is reflected in our range of amenities; our diversified approach to lifelong learning and programming; the active participation of residents, their families and our team. We recognize that each and every aging journey is unique, and with many flexible options and amenities offered, residents can choose how they age in place.

What supports do you offer residents as they adjust to life there?

Our philosophy of care is built on a social model of care services that supports a strong wellness culture, enabling a relationship-centred approach to care that supports our residents and families.

We form strong reciprocal and interdependent relationships among everyone involved in care, including the resident, family members & friends, allied health professionals, physicians, and staff.

Our care approach is based on our pillars of a normalized social model of living, and an inclusive model of community that is respectful of one’s physical, functional, and cognitive abilities. We provide active aging environments, programs, and amenities that support individuals living well and taking control of their health and wellness.

How are residents supported if their needs change?

Trico LivingWell has not responded to this question yet.

Under what conditions would you advise someone against choosing your community?

Trico LivingWell has not responded to this question yet.

What might residents find surprising about your community?

Living well is about Active Living as you define it. Living well is about the overall quality of life that one feels and experiences with lifestyle choices that we value or want. This includes finding energy, purpose, and desire to optimize life’s possibilities.

Our residents don’t have to be wellness experts to be a part of our community. We provide all the knowledge and resources they need. Wellness Programming is led by a team of Recreational Therapists, kinesiologists, fitness specialists, and artists in our community’s amenity spaces, patios and outdoor park area. Our creative culinary team works with a registered dietician to curate a WELLness menu that nourishes your body and delights your senses.

How will your community change in the next five years?

Trico LivingWell has not responded to this question yet.

What five facts about your community should people know?

•Our culinary team is led by award-winning Calgary chef Liana Robberecht, who is passionate about providing residents with delicious food from real ingredients.

•We have a superior air quality system design using a combination of 100% fresh air exchange and HEPA filters.

•Our community was built by Trico Homes, Western Canada’s only Certified B Corp homebuilder with 30+ years of experience.

•We are the first retirement community in Canada registered to pursue WELL v2 Certification, a vigorously vetted performance-based rating system for buildings with features that enhance human health and wellness.

•Our community is full of onsite green spaces: living walls, rooftop garden, memory care patios, and a dining patio.

Shelly McCreary, family member

"We moved my 90 year old mother in this week and she was quite apprehensive about any kind of move but knew it was necessary for her and her health. We were afraid that it might take a while for her to adjust and have been pleasantly surprised at how quickly she's adjusting! Brandi and all of the staff are so pleasant and have really made her feel at ease. She's made so many new friends already and they're all very pleased with Trico Living Well! It was also a big help that she could bring her do..."

R B, resident

"I moved into assisted living at Trico after exploring other options in July. The move went incredibly well with movers recommended by Trico. The new building is great and it represents good value. The dining experience is excellent. 3 meals with choice as to when to eat, what to eat, and where you wish to sit. The Trico team is very knowledgeable, professional, and fosters a caring community. Brandi, the sales manager, was attentive to understanding my needs. Trico Living Well is home. "
