How assisted living relieves both seniors and families
Assisted living homes offer exceptional care for people who may have concerns over deteriorating health or who have suffered serious health setbacks such as strokes. Seniors and families may have resistance to the idea of moving into a retirement home but there can come a time when it is the right decision to make. When it comes to this, though, many people are surprised and even delighted at the caring environment offered in today's retirement homes. Over time, we at Comfort Life have heard many stories of people who were reluctant to move into assisted living but who ended up enjoying the move.
Mary is one example of a senior who moved into an Ottawa senior living home, only after some coaxing. "It was hard to leave my home and my old neighbourhood," she told us. However, she was no longer able to care for her husband who required daily assistance in simply getting around the home. Mary was advised by her family doctor to move into seniors' care. Once she moved in, though, she adjusted to the change and as she told us, "I am amazed at how much I feel at home here! There's so much to do, and it is such a wonderful environment!"
Families also find it comforting. Dora moved her mother into assisted living in an Ottawa seniors' home and found great relief at no longer having to worry. "My mother is at a very vulnerable time of her life, and it's so wonderful to see her in an environment where everyone knows here and understands her needs. She's gotten some of her strength back, and that would not have been possible without the staff and environment here."
Assisted living care homes are a great improvement over homes seniors have lived in since they bought them many years ago. Few older homes are designed for accessibility or safety. Retirement homes like those listed here offer up-to-date design, new facilities, elevators, wheel chair accessibility and of course, caring staff on hand round-the-clock to care for any needs that arise.

When considering the costs of any Ottawa retirement home, it's important to remember that one umbrella covers every monthly and yearly bill you are used to paying in your own home. Consider the list of what's covered: heat, hydro, property taxes, groceries, appliances, implements and all your other household goods, upkeep like roofing, interior decorating and all the other many costs you pay at home. Many people are surprised at the fact that, when they do the accounting, it is much cheaper live in an assisted living unit than to live in their own home.
If you move into assisted living, you may qualify for benefits and financing not otherwise available. You can read about long term care insurance for assisted living care. Paying for Assisted Living need not be prohibitive for families, and there are a variety of funding options and payment options opened up by care homes. We also offer an overview of typical options for paying for assisted living and other senior care.
