In the Comfort Life Spotlight

Hamilton has a growing population of those 50 and older; these older couples (and singles) are finding new options opening up. Adult lifestyle communities are an exciting option that has grown in popularity over the last few decades. These are expected to continue to grow in numbers over the upcoming years as the population continues to age.

Lifestyle Options: Active Living

The appeal of moving

Many people live in a home they bought many years ago, under very different circumstances than those they are now living in. Once your kids have moved out, you no longer need the room you once paid for. (All that unneeded space adds up to a lot of extra equity, too.) Times have changed, the neighbourhood has changed, culture has changed. But most importantly, you've changed. Who needs all that room? Why have all that stuff? Why not simplify!

That's what adult lifestyle communities like those listed above can do for you.

When you move into an active adult or adult lifestyle neighbourhood, you'll find that it's created for you. And as a consequence it's populated with people just like you: active seniors with whom you'll create a new kind of a community, where you'll find a new kind of happiness.

Hear from others and consider your options

"It's a smaller, more manageable home, in a smaller community," says Francine, an older adult living in a community in a 55 plus community not far from Hamilton. The new home she and her husband moved into is perfect for them in ways they never imagined, before moving there. "Now," says Francine, "we wouldn't trade it for anything. [We are] with people our own age, with similar interests." As she summarizes it, the lifestyle change into a community of peers and into a home and community perfectly-sized for their needs, "makes our [entire] everyday living better."

Over 55 living comes in all shapes and sizes. Some communities are gated, which contrary to some opinions are not about exclusivity, but about security. These are ideal if you like to travel or if you have a winter home in a warmer part of the world. Other kinds of active senior communities you'll find in Hamilton-Burlington and area include golfing communities for seniors, retirement bungalow communities, waterfront retirement villages along Lake Ontario, and many more. Watch for these continuing to move into development over the next few years.

They make a great investment, now, and of course they make a great next home!
