The Briton House generates exceptional loyalty among seniors and family members they serve. We see few communities with residents who have stayed in one place for longer than ten years but there are a number of such long-term residents here. We believe that stems from the unique vision at work here, starting from a foundation of looking at senior care and lifestyle holistically.
A number of things make the Briton House completely unique, beginning with the fact that it’s family-owned and operated. This lends Briton House intimacy and also a consistency of service not found in every retirement home. It’s also remarkable for such an established community to have this many progressive -- and also one-of-a-kind -- features. Standout among these are the year-round indoor garden, a glass-domed salt-water swimming pool, and a recital hall that’s acclaimed for its acoustics.
The loyalty of residents also creates stability among the senior population here. In turn, this creates lasting friendships, but it’s also a gregarious group, eager to share with newcomers. This community is comfortable for any Toronto senior to move to, aided by the Mount Pleasant neighbourhood and its many established shops. The services and staff should make this very inviting. Take a close look and you’ll find your own reasons why its people are so loyal.

My story begins with panic. I had one month to move my 94 year old mom to a retirement home close to me at Yonge and Eglinton. I phoned every one in the area. The only one that understood my pain was Jared, Marketing manager at the Briton House. Immediately, we had a meeting. The care and compassion was outstanding. I signed on the dotted line he and his staff had a beautiful suite ready for mom... My mom is so happy thanks to everyone at the Briton House.
I researched many retirement homes in Toronto, and Briton House stood out for many reasons. Family owned and operated, an excellent reputation, positive referrals and reasonable pricing put Briton House on the short list. It was quick and easy to book a tour and we were impressed with the comfortable hotel-like atmosphere, relaxing atrium and amenities. Once my loved one moved in, the caring and competent staff provided an environment where she was able to enjoy regular meals, be supported with personal care and flourish, becoming the happy, social person she was before being diagnosed with dementia. You can trust that residents are well cared for, safe and living their best life.
My mom moved here a month ago, it is fantastic. Beautiful facilities, great activities and food and the management and nursing staff are incredibly friendly and helpful.
My cousin chose this residence after learning his medical condition was terminal The staff and upper management were always available to keep me in the loop. GOD bless
I have been staying at the Briton House for about 3 years now... The leadership team handled COVID extremely well and we had no cases for a very long time. I was so happy that all of the residents and the staff were able to get our shots early on.
I have a very nice table mate, we have amazing conversations and the community here is very friendly.
We have a talented chef, and I like that if you don’t want what is on the menu that day, there is always an alternative that you can choose from.
During COVID, I felt such incredible relief knowing the quality of care and compassion my father was receiving at The Briton House. As a resident on a care floor, he was always treated with dignity and warmth and I cannot express my gratitude for the wonderful PSWs and nurses who tended to him everyday.
My Dad has been living at Briton House since October of 2019. Prior to the pandemic, Dad loved the daily exercise classes, music concerts and socialising over meals in the dining room. Briton House acted quickly and proactively getting PPE early on, to protect staff and residents. Their frequent and regular updates for family of residents, have been helpful, comforting and appreciated. Briton House is one of the first, if not the first, long term care facility to have all staff and residents vaccinated! An amazing accomplishment! Although we have missed, in person visits, I know staff are working hard to return to, some normalcy for their residents. I have every confidence, their knowledge and skill, attention to detail and care will make this happen.
I am very impressed and very fortunate to be a resident here at the Briton House.
I have been here for 3 years and I am the youngest in the building. I am the 5th generation of my family to live here. I used to come visit my parents for lunch and in 2016 I moved in.
I have lived in this area my whole life, so a lot of the residents come to me when they want to know where things are or what to do in the neighbourhood.
The staff here are wonderful and I get along with them quite well. David Smith, Margaret, Mark, John, Sandy, Matthew and Susan are all very lovely people.
I enjoy living here and have no problems here. It’s a wonderful place to live and I knew the owner Mr. Wells very well. It’s a nice place, cozy and the atrium is very big and nice.
My husband I have been living here for a long time. We like to walk, we walk every day in the outside garden, usually after breakfast and after lunch. You see friends and have a chance to say hello. It is [a] social community.
We have a good sized balcony in our unit. I have pots of flowers there and can satisfy my green thumb by caring for them, In this nice weather it works as another room..
There is a beautiful salt water swimming pool. I try to swim twice a week. We are fortunate to have such a nice place to exercise. Just outside the pool there is a balcony and when I swim, my husband walks there.
The staff are very accommodating, interested, concerned , helpful and happy.
Briton House was the right move for us at this time.
I am entering the 11th year of my stay at The Briton House and I cannot believe how well we are treated. Compared to the rest of the world I think we are extremely lucky. I think it’s quite remarkable.
I swim everyday, we have great entertainment, I have no complaints about the apartment I live in, I am extremely lucky. Everything about the Briton House is extraordinary. There’s always someone available if you need help, you can call the office or the front desk. I don’t know how to explain it I think its just a miracle that this place exists. Even now today, we can go out to the patio [it’s not fun to wear a mask] but I can’t think of any other place id rather be that would make me this happy. The food is amazing. There’s a lot of independence here which is nice, but there’s also the security of having people around.
My mother is very happy here and the facilities are very beautiful. I would recommend the Briton House to anyone who is look for a retirement home in Toronto.
The Briton House is my home and I am very comfortable here. I like spending time in the pool and being on the outdoor patio. The staff are very nice.
I would recommend it! It's a small, family-run community, very friendly. Staff are nice to the residents throughout. The atrium is a beautiful feature. The location is very handy for people. We're very satisfied! My mom is very happy with it here. She said to me, one day, 'How did you find such a lovely place for me?'
I've been consistently happy with TBH, its devoted staff (administrative and medical), and with the level of comfort my parents enjoy … I also get a real sense of contentment among the other residents. I'm so pleased my parents chose to live at TBH for this next phase of their lives.
The Briton House is an excellent retirement home. The food is very good, lots of variety and made fresh every day ... Many thanks for a wonderful experience. Kudos to the Briton House family and staff.
The Briton House has a great community ... The residents are very welcoming and the staff is very always there, you can tell they care about you, and they listen. I find it free to be myself here; it is a very relaxed atmosphere.
The Briton House has great entertainment programs. There are two movies nights and one live performance each week. I like the management team, they are really nice people. It is a nice atmosphere it’s not institutional. They have great meals and I look forward to not just the meal but the people you eat with. Karen and Susan on the management team have an infectious personality which shows all over the Briton House.
