Reviews of Carleton Place Terrace by Symphony

Gain exclusive insight into life at Carleton Place Terrace by Symphony. Comfort Life’s reviews give you exclusive insider information.

Our perspective

This is an ideal place for seniors who need assisted living or are in the middle to later stages of Alzheimer's Disease. Carleton Place Terrace by Symphony gives seniors daily positive peer interactions, a clean, well-lit space, and therapies and services that alleviate some symptoms of dementia. It's perfectly situated for families on the west end of the National Capital Region or from elsewhere in eastern Ontario.

Families rave about the friendliness of everyone at this small town retirement residence on the outskirts of Ottawa. The focus here is on providing assisted living to dementia care, creating a community of similarly-abled people who feel good about where they are. This caring place also provides the regularity of prepared meals, an orderly environment, and professional staff.

In addition, though, the pampering residents receive in amenities like the onsite beauty salon helps them retain dignity. There are more amenities like a movie theatre that you simply wouldn't have at home. The diverse calendar of activities is perfectly suited to residents' needs. Pets onsite encourage interaction and reduce anxiety and loneliness. Symphony also encourages healing through its circle of care; this forms inter-familial bonds and creates a community of Ottawa and area families learning, together, how to cope with the impact of dementia.

My mother moved into the Terrace recently for what my sisters and I anticipated would be a short term respite stay. However, it unexpectedly turned into a terminal palliative care residency. The staff at the Terrace were able to accommodate her change in situation and medical status very smoothly and made her last days as comfortable as possible. This allowed Mom to pass away with a level of grace and dignity that exceeded our expectations. Everyone showed great caring and compassion towards both Mom and our family. Thanks to Dawn, Amy and the rest of the staff for making this difficult experience easier to handle. Based on our experience, we would highly recommend the Terrace for respite care.

Liz was amazing in getting my parents moved in on very short notice and giving them the accommodations that they required. Dad passed soon after and the staff has been extremely supportive to my mom. There were a few glitches but nothing that was serious. Overall, I think this is a great place and they are still working with my mom to make her time there comfortable.

Helen Fisher, senior

A very welcoming location and team! They are supportive of the community and caring. Special acknowledgement for Liz who goes beyond when you reach out to her!

My mum and dad moved here in September. It's a lovely, homey atmosphere. The building is clean and well-appointed without being "fussy" and pretentious. They have been treated royally, both of them enjoying the cheerful and helpful staff who always brighten their days. Dad has since passed away, and my mum continues to love it... the level of care, kindnesses and good food are in her daily feedback to me ! Thank you, Carleton Place Terrace !

My dad stayed here for a few months. Great place. He said he was well taken care of and everyone was so nice.

Got excellent service from Alicia in nursing. My grandmother (resident) had a small but urgent issue, called the home, Alicia was understanding and helped right away.

My grandmother was at [Carleton Place Terrace] for a couple of years before having to move into long-term care. It was an excellent experience for her, she was very isolated on her own in her home prior and we were shocked at how social she became, eating her meals with new friends and participating in activities especially arts and crafts.

My parents recently moved into the Terrace and were welcomed from day one with open arms. They have been treated with respect and dignity and seem to be very attentive. They have a lovely suite with ample room to move around with walkers. There are enough social activities to get them out of their room during this lock down times and keep them engaged. The protocols for visitors with the pandemic are stricter than some other residences it seems, but it's keeping them all safe so I appreciate the extra effort the staff are putting in. All in all a positive experience so far.

My mom has been here for a few years now. The staff are all friendly and caring. It hit me hard when I dropped my mom back at the residence after being in the hospital for 2 weeks. Everyone was soooo excited to see her, my mom has been a difficult client at times, so I was surprised at the outpouring of love! I would recommend the Terrace for your loved ones!

My mother has been living at the Carleton Place Terrace for a few months now. It was a hard decision, but it was made so much easier by the kind and caring staff. They have been so helpful with the whole process, and have made things so easy and seamless. I know that my Mom is safe and is being so well-cared for. She raves about the food and she loves all of the opportunities to listen to music. She enjoys her daily walks in the courtyard and speaks often of Angel, the resident pup! Her room is lovely and she is very comfortable there.

I am grateful for the care that my parents are receiving at The Terrace in Carleton Place. Staying in the community where they have resided for many years was important to them.
The staff are attentive and compassionate and have gone 'over and above' especially during this difficult season. Many have made great personal sacrifices to keep residents of The Terrace comfortable.
I know that my parents are safe and cared for.

Carleton Place Terrace provided great care for my step dad in his final years at the Terrace. I feel [that during] the challenges of Covid-19, the staff have made these challenging times better for residents. Today those residing in the Carleton Place Terrace and their families can take comfort in knowing health and safety for everyone is a priority.

My Mom lived several years at the Terrace and was very well looked after. Their ability to make you feel like an asset to their community was wonderful. That extends to their residents as well as community members. Just a very welcoming place. Kudos for getting through this last year Covid-free!

Having to accept that it is time for a parent or parents to move into a Senior’s Residence is a difficult time for families. As Mom’s Dementia progressed the day came when it was no longer possible for Dad to take of her. Without a doubt, Carleton Place Terrace was the best fit for my mom and our family.
From the moment we walked into the beautiful lobby the warmth, understanding and acceptance shown us by Elizabeth immediately put us at ease. We were given time to share my parents story, observe, ask questions, and was provided with all the information about CP Terrace and all that it offers. Elizabeth understood that it was emotionally difficult for Dad, but her experience, assurances that mom would be well taken care of and her natural warmth helped him through the experience.
In Moments mom received loving, professional care by staff trained to work with people with Dementia and Alzheimer’s. Mom especially enjoyed the social interactions, musical performances, manicures, and country drives. The family was welcomed and encouraged to visit and to participate in all the many activities. Dad visited twice a day and he began to feel part of the CP Terrace community even though he didn’t live there.
The following spring we had to move Dad into CP Terrace too. Staff recognized the importance and value of keeping couples together and they enabled us to move Mom in with Dad so they could be together again. Mom continued to receive the same level of quality care that she did in Moments, even ensuring that some of the Staff that she was familiar with continued to provide her personal care.
Shortly after moving Mom in with Dad we got a call that there was a space for Mom in a Long-Term Care Facility, we had 24 hours to decide. We just got them back together again, we knew and trusted the staff. The CP Terrace Staff assured us that they had the ability to continue to provide all the care for mom as her Dementia progressed and her mobility issues increased. The decision was simple, we kept Mom and Dad together at CP Terrace.
Late in 2019, Dad began to fail. The Staff kept such a close eye on him and contacted me immediately when they had concerns. Covid hit early in the new year and CP Terrace went into lockdown. While it was extremely difficult not to be able to see our parents, especially as Dad continued to fail we understood that the Management at CP Terrace were putting the safety of all the Residents and of the Staff taking care of our loved ones first. We knew our parents were being well cared for and safe and we commend the Staff for their diligence and dedication. During the lockdown, the Staff at CP Terrace became family for the residents when families were unable to visit their loved ones.
Dad passed in April 2020 of old age. CP Terrace was still in lockdown, we were unable to be with mom. Staff kept a close eye on Mom and moved her back down to Moments where staff/resident ratios are better. We are so thankful for the dedication, hard work, compassion and loving care that all the Staff at CP Terrace provided for Dad and continue to provide for Mom.

I can not say enough about Symphony Senior Living’s Carleton Place Terrace. My parents both transitioned to live there predominantly in winter when their “snowbird” days in Florida came to an end approximately 8 years ago. Dad passed away soon after and Mom stayed. Everyone from the Executive Staff, various Directors, Nurses, Dining Room Staff, housekeeping, and all manner of helpers are friendly, kind, and helpful. They all take the time to truly get to know the residents and help ensure all possible needs are met. They are open to working with the family to make sure their loved ones are provided the best care. Looking after aging parents can be a daunting time in our lives. This has been exacerbated tenfold with the pandemic. Thanks to their amazing diligence, there has been not one single case of coronavirus in this wonderful place. My heartfelt thanks to all the staff who make this challenging time that much easier and for keeping my mom safe and healthy.

It's a big comfort [to my mom to] know
that she is safe. You are a huge blessing in her life ... Thank you
for going above and beyond!

Tony, family member

My dad lived here 2016-2017. The transition
when a parent loses independence is a tough one. Carleton Place Terrace
staff were caring, thoughtful, and professional ... and made sure my dad
got the care he needed.
