Northern Territories Retirement Homes & Communities

Retiring in the Northwest Territories, Nunavut or the Yukon?

In the Comfort Life Spotlight

If you are considering retiring in the Northwest Territories keep in mind that seniors are the fastest growing population in the Northwest Territories (NWT), which is why organizations like the NWT Seniors’ Society, NWT Housing Corporation and Government of the NWT have created a senior-friendly environment that offers programs, services and support for seniors in these communities.

For seniors, the Continuum of Care is a service that includes home and community care, supported living, long-term care and extended care.  It’s important to remember that long-term care doesn’t refer to retirement communities, and instead admission into long-term care is based on the type of care required – not age or the community you are from.  In addition, keep in mind that First Nations and Inuit need to access extended health benefits through the Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) program.
