The Sumach by Chartwell is a spectacular, still-very-new retirement destination close to the heart of Toronto. It’s an ideal place for people who love to be where the fun and excitement is. That can be found both inside the community—really all you need—and in the nearby area, where there’s all the best that Toronto has to offer.
One of the most notable features of this residence is the spaciousness of the lounges and three dining rooms. Hazelton Place focuses on offering a variety of activities and attractions to bring residents together and facilitate a lifestyle that is as active (or as quiet) as you might want. The area is rife with history including U of T buildings, and it has been recently reinvigorated, with many new shops and outdoor cafes, etc.
I’m so pleased to give 5 stars to Chartwell at Sumach and Dundas. This team at Chartwell at Sumach has been a incredible and talented team. I had a friend (Shelly Battram) that move to Chartwell almost a year ago, and the service and support that my friend got there was amazing and outstanding, even they give me lot of support and help to deal with my dearest friend (Shelly Battram). I call this team my home and family. And the decor is so beautiful and this place is so clean all the time.
The most wonderful place. Beautiful new, clean building with purpose built units; good food, good activities and most of all an amazing staff that goes above and beyond. After looking into so many retirement homes, my family and I are so thrilled that we were able to get my mom a place here. Couldn't be happier.
I was looking for a residence for my Father 88 years old. Sumach was an ideal for my father. We spoke with Mike Tisiot at Sumach who was awesome, professional and caring. The entire process of meeting with us via video (we live in the USA) and then meeting with us in-person and responding to my numerous emails in detail and swiftly is commendable. As one knows moving an elderly father from his house to a new residence is stressful for the entire family and Mike made the process very smooth for us and is always available to answer any questions and work with our schedule when needed. I highly recommend Sumach and in particular Mike Tisiot.
I recently moved both of my parents into The Sumach by Chartwell. They love their new retirement residence and all of the activities that they offer. Grant Hooper was the main person who has guided and assisted through the process. He is very kind, compassionate, is always very attentive and responds promptly. We can always rely on him to answer or questions or direct us to the appropriate person. I highly recommend contacting Grant if you are looking for a retirement residence for yourself or for loved ones.
My husband I have lived at the Sumach from the day it opened its doors on the 1st of April 2019. We love our home, the pleasant and ever-considerate staff and the friendly and helpful residents. This is "Home". We would like to end our days here, health and finances permitting. This is a very safe and secure environment; one that gives you all the freedom you need while knowing that help is always there if and when you need it. Thank you to the wonderful staff at the Sumach.
My parents moved into Hazelton Place in December 2022, and they both think it's terrific. They love the food. The dining room is exquisite. The staff are conscientious and quite personable. Both my parents take daily exercise classes, which is a first for my dad. The amenities are ample, and the variety of the daily programming is superb. There's a lot to do, and spacious rooms to do it in. Also, the residents are friendly and accomplished. It's easy to make new friends. All things considered, Hazelton Place is a winner.
The Hazelton took the very best care of my parents. They organized everything in the move and managed the process seamlessly. My parents are happily settled and have all the resources they need. Everyone that works here is so helpful. We couldn’t have asked for better care.
I recently moved my mother into Hazelton Place and it has been a wonderful experience both in introduction process with Leslie Westlake the Marketing Manager who was so professional and outstanding on the following up the details . The staff have been excellent with any interaction, the food excellent and overall cleanest is outstanding.
Leslie has been extremely helpful assisting by brother and I find a home for our 96 year old father. Very quickly we determined that Hazelton was the perfect place. Unfortunately, while other retirement homes have a vacancy rate up to 20%, the assisted living unit at the Hazelton has a wait list of around a year. They must be doing something right!
In considering a place for my mother to retire to I found my visit to the Hazleton to be extremely informative and welcoming. They did everything they could to illustrate the features of the residence including allowing me to see a lived-in suite and inviting me to lunch. I was very impressed. The management staff were very thorough and bent over backward to accommodate my mother’s needs. I would highly recommend it.
The Sumach by Chartwell is a beautiful 12-storey retirement residence featuring spacious seniors’ apartments with flexible, à la carte services and casual amenities, perfect for those looking to combine a vibrant neighbourhood with a welcoming residence in the heart of Downtown East. Here, you are empowered to craft your lifestyle. One of the most valued aspects of life at The Sumach is our location in the newly revitalized and redeveloped Regent Park neighbourhood. The recent revitalization of the area has restored a diversity of architecture that matches surrounding neighbourhoods and reconnected Regent Park to Toronto’s grid of streets. It also included the creation of new commercial spaces and community facilities that have provided a venue for the neighbourhood’s thriving arts and culture scene. As such, we benefit from being in the midst of a dynamic urban environment where everything—including shopping, dining, culture, recreation and transportation—is only steps away.
Right in the heart of Yorkville, 111 Avenue Road has a Walk Score of 98 out of 100. This location is a walker’s paradise — daily errands do not require a car. With a nine-minute walk from Bay Station along the Bloor-Danforth subway line, Hazelton Place is close to amenities for shopping, galleries, restaurants, places of worship, and healthcare.
