This community offers diligent support from the top down. Seniors here are effusive about the care and attention they receive, and the added joy they feel from the beauty of the landscape, design, and construction. Magnolia Gardens is a great place to live.
The Village Langley is a state-of-the-art memory care community, an ideal setting for people dealing with the adverse effects of Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. They can live here safely, free to come and go wherever they like within The Village. Family members' worries about tendencies to elopement evaporate. But there's so much more. Residents live a lifestyle that promotes more activity and requires less medication. The environment itself is a holistic treatment.
Being here has made life a lot easier. I have my laundry and housekeeping done. I'm very fussy, so I do my own dusting, but it's wonderful to have the bedding done and to have my bed made. My brother also lives here and he has all these things done for him as well. I do his laundry, personal laundry, and I do mine, but the rest is done for us. And it's just wonderful to have my suite done every week and my laundry done every week. The meals here are wonderful. Scott is a terrific Chef, also he's a very personable man. I've come to really care for him. He's very sweet he's very kind. And also very reasonable when we make suggestions to him. The rest of the staff in the kitchen is wonderful, the servers are very helpful. They're always eager to help. And I have a lovely suite. It's just very cozy and warm, and with the furniture I chose, it's even more so. I love my little kitchen because I can just turn around in it. Not that I'm doing any cooking, but I make my toast and coffee. It's a wonderful view for me to look at if I sit on my patio. It's beautiful. I have some beautiful trees around—a gorgeous maple tree across from me and fir trees behind. So it's very, very private, and it's very, very calming.
It's the best decision we ever made as a family for my mother-in-law to be here close to us in our community. And Magnolia has made it so easy for us to be with her, to communicate with them, to make sure she's happy and safe. Couldn't say enough about Magnolia. They've made this transition very easy. The staff is unbelievable, they treat everybody here like they're their own relatives. They've done things that I haven't asked them to do that have made things easier for our family; made sure that she has everything that she needs; communicated to me and the family what she would need to make things easier; they've communicated with Fraser Health, the pharmacy, anybody that she interacts with. They all communicate together to make it easy and simple. And the best part is that I know that she's safe here. If there's a problem they call me, no decisions are made without us giving the okay. It's just a really friendly homey place here. The meals are unbelievable, the activities are non-stop. There's always somebody checking on you coming to your room to see if you need anything else and also there's your privacy and your own suite. It's just like having your own home.
My Dad and I were given a tour of the residence's common rooms where they offered various activities and a look at the available suites followed by a lunch in the dining room and an explanation of the extras that came with the rental... He chose a suite that day! Staff was kind and caring. He always enjoyed his meals. Activities were creative and there was something for everyone, be it carpet bowling, bingo, yoga or happy hour. Happy hour was maybe his favourite. Together we enjoyed various entertainers, often twice a week. The residence is a few steps from a drug store, and about 3 blocks to downtown Langley allowing for some independence even though he wasn't driving anymore.
Pam gave us the grand tour of the Magnolia Gardens community and we were very impressed, very clean and welcoming, the suites were spacious and very livable, highly recommend this community!
Absolutely the best experience one could hope for when providing care for their elderly loved one. We have been at Magnolia Gardens for about 7 years and they have gone above and beyond to meet every request and have done so with compassion and kindness. Pam Murphy who is the manager at Magnolia has been a godsend to me and my elder who has needed comprehensive ongoing care. We have been accommodated on every level including support from their rehab practitioner, caregiver referrals, nursing, mobile lab, in house chef menu, permission to have medical equipment (as long as it met approved safety standards) and spiritual support just to name a few. Recently, my elder had requested to go to a Catholic church but due to Covid restrictions, that is not doable at this time, I asked Pam if she knew of anyone with a spiritual background on staff and that same day, Michael went up to his room and very generously spent a few hours talking with my father which provided him with much peace. It is these gifts of humanity on top of a clean, bright and cheerful environment that make Magnolia and their caring staff exceptional. I can rest easy knowing that my elder is very safe and in good hands. I would highly recommend Magnolia Gardens for you or any of your family members.
The staff and services are AMAZING, especially given the lockdown due to the Pandemic, the residents are truly lucky to make this place their home. So glad we found them for my Mom, I honestly can not think of a better place for her through this time.
My aunt lives there. She has the best care and is super happy.
My aunt was lucky to become one of the first residents here, and I have visited often. This is a truly groundbreaking facility and the staff are as patient and friendly as you'd hope for. I have noted the postings by others who are upset by the cost of living at The Village; asking "who can afford to live here?" and suggesting it is only for the elite. While I could not afford to live here, that is due to my particular circumstances and life choices. My aunt can afford to live here for many years to come, but I want to share her story and show others that living like this is not reserved just for the wealthy. Auntie M. and her family were sent to live in a BC internment camp during the war, when she was just a young girl. She left, barely into her teens; left her family and left school to return to the Lower Mainland to toil as a housekeeper for a wealthy family. She made this sacrifice to send money back to her parents and siblings. Later, after the war ended and everyone moved back to the Lower Mainland, Auntie M. found work in the Steveston cannery. She never completed her schooling; having to still help her parents and siblings and with little education, working in the cannery was what she could do. But, she was wise with her money, saved up, and bought a house. This house and her very dedicated savings are what allows her to enjoy life in the wonderful The Village now and for years to come. I am so happy that this amazing woman, who did hard physical work her whole life, sacrificed her youth and her education, is thriving at The Village due to her own self taught money management efforts. So to those who are affronted and snidely suggest that a community like The Village is an elitist utopian ideal, I suggest otherwise. Yes, it is costly but it is worth every penny for the high quality of care, the beautiful atmosphere and the priceless dignity with which residents are permitted to live. I couldn't recommend it enough!
We couldn't be more happy with the level of specialized dementia care and understanding provided by all the staff at the Village.
