My husband stayed at Canterbury Place for two weeks while I was away. It is a beautiful place with excellent food. The amenities provided something for everyone. The staff was friendly and extremely competent. The residents' interest and care was of paramount importance. We feel fortunate to have access to a home away from home when needed.
Magnificent place. Has a certain warmth like home. Very accommodating and polite staff with a great smile.
My husband was in short term respite. He was treated with respect, dignity and love. The staff love their work and their residents and it permeates throughout the gorgeous building. The enterainment director, Simone Rowe, has a real eye for decorating and the parties are absolutely special along with the entertainment. Always happy residents.
Since 2015, my mother & father had the pleasure of living at Canterbury Place Retirement Residence in Toronto. I cannot express enough how impressed I was with every aspect of their experience. My mother has since moved on to a Long Term Care facility and I can honestly say that we miss life at Canterbury. First and foremost, the management team and staff at Canterbury Place are exceptional. They go above and beyond to ensure that every resident feels valued, respected, and cared for. Their dedication to providing personalized attention and support is truly commendable. Whether it was assisting with daily activities, organizing engaging social events, or simply offering a friendly smile and conversation, the staff consistently demonstrated their commitment to creating a welcoming and inclusive community. The facilities at Canterbury Place are top-notch. The residence is beautifully designed, with clean, spacious and comfortable living areas that exude a sense of tranquility and elegance. The suites are thoughtfully designed, providing a safe and spacious layout allowing ample room for walking devices. Floor to ceiling sliding doors and windows provide abundant natural light and dual access to a large balcony with incredible views of busy Yonge Street and the City. The common areas, such as the dining room, multiple lounges, cafes, games room, terraces and state of the art theatre are tastefully decorated and offer a perfect space for socializing and relaxation. Each floor has been recently updated with new corridor carpeting and is equipped with newly renovated laundry facilities. One of the highlights of my parents stay was the exceptional “white glove” dining experience at Canterbury Place. The culinary team consistently delivered delicious and nutritious meals, catering to a variety of dietary preferences and restrictions. The menu featured a wide range of options, and the quality of the ingredients was evident in every bite. The dining staff were attentive and friendly, ensuring that every meal was a delightful experience. I regularly enjoyed joining my parents for lunch and/or dinner. The range of activities and amenities available at Canterbury Place is truly impressive. From fitness classes and wellness programs to cultural outings and educational workshops, there is something for everyone. The robust programming schedule is thoughtful and full of variety. The Life Enrichment team really make an effort and are creative in bringing variety of interesting, engaging and fun activities to the residents. The sense of community fostered through these activities and amenities is invaluable, creating opportunities for socializing, making new friends, and pursuing personal interests. Since COVID, the residence has implemented comprehensive protocols and measures to ensure the well-being of all residents. From regular health screenings to 24/7 emergency response systems, every precaution is taken to provide a secure and comfortable living environment. The nursing team are extremely knowledgeable, reliable and organized when it comes to the dynamics of medication management and caring for the acute and long term medical needs of the residents. The team of PSWs are so loving and patient. They form genuine relationships with the residents that compel them to go above and beyond their basic job requirements. Overall, my parents (and my), experience at Canterbury Place Retirement Residence was nothing short of exceptional. The management team should be commended as the overall product offering has been materially elevated in recent years. All aspects of the facility and services is considered in my opinion to be extremely “high touch” but not stuffy. The combination of outstanding staff, beautiful facilities, delectable dining, engaging activities, and a strong sense of community truly sets this residence apart. I wholeheartedly recommend Canterbury Place to anyone seeking a retirement community that prioritizes dignity, comfort, care, and a vibrant lifestyle.
This is a great retirement community. It is diverse, warm and friendly. There are fun and interesting resident activities and good cuisine. Staff and management are friendly and supportive. The healthcare professionals and team are very attentive and responsive. It gives me peace of mind to know that my Father is so well taken care of.
The front lobby is very inviting…There's a really nice gathering space, a big assembly room for main events. There is a large dining room that has a terrace… There's a room called the Fireside Lounge where activities take place. There's a synagogue on the main floor… There's a really beautiful greenhouse and that's one of my favorite places to hang out. The greenhouse is always open and it's a very peaceful place… There are gym and pool facilities… There's an art room. There are yoga classes. [There are also] lots of group activities ranging from movie nights in the assembly room to, in the summer, there are ice cream socials and a barbecue. There are Yiddish classes. There are concerts every week. Really a range of things! There are lots of games… Bridge and Rummikub and Scrabble. And really nice grounds outside to walk. There's a beautiful walkway and it's very peaceful. People here pretty look out for each other, and if there's somebody new, they invite them to go to dinner with them or outside… the welcome couldn't be warmer.
It's a nice place to live. You're well taken care of… If you have a problem, there’s [always] a nurse. So, it may be a minor thing [and] you don't have to call the doctor. The nurse might just be able to help you, or the nurse will be able to contact the doctor. Baycrest [is] a nice place to settle. For us, the important thing was that it was kosher. We wouldn't go to a place that was not. I join whatever is interesting. I go to exercises. I belong to the book club. We have musicals which people enjoy very much… We have a lovely garden outside. Now that summer is here, we go out for walks. There, you meet people… it’s up to you. The staff is very friendly, very good. We’ve all found [that to be true] ... Everybody is friendly.
Our family is forever grateful to [you] for enhancing our mother’s final years.
Nice staff, very clean and organized place.
