Bucket List Ideas: 17 Ideas That Might Change Your Life
Bucket lists are a great way to motivate yourself to live your life by that timeless creed: carpe diem—seize the day. Because both the web and your mind are probably full of conventional bucket list ideas (i.e. visit one of the world’s wonders), this post will venture beyond the customary with a little bit of traditional bucket list material mixed in.Here are 17 great bucket list ideas:
- Travel to a relatively unknown place in the world. While common vacation spots like Paris are beautiful, learning about the culture in a seemingly forgotten or little known place in the world, such as East Timor, will provide you with knowledge that very few people have.
- Adopt a pet. Living with an animal in your life is an incomparable form of companionship, which you cannot fathom until you experience it.
- Talk to someone who you would never previously have thought about approaching.
- Have a decade theme party with your friends. Dress as if it were a different era. Bring back the memories of a particular epoch in your life.
- Write a memoir. Everybody has something interesting to share.
- Find a pen pal. The age of this new friend does not matter. Put simply, learning about somebody else’s situation may help you deal with your life’s challenges.
- Reconnect with a long-lost friend.
- Pull off a practical joke.
- Help someone in need. One way you may accomplish this goal would be by buying a meal for a homeless individual. A website called Homeless Perspectives provides great insight into helping the homeless with seemingly small acts of kindness.
- Go on a travel tour to follow something you are passionate about. Here are a few examples: all 30 Major League Baseball stadiums, a live theater excursion, or a jazz tour.
- Train to accomplish a physical feat, like a marathon, bike race, or climbing a mountain.
- Learn about your own city or town. Indeed, we often know very little about the place in which we live. Pretend that you are a tourist in your hometown!
- Buy a portable media player (i.e. iPod) and spend time filling it with the music that has defined your life.
- Read a book with which you know you will disagree. Many of us go through life without giving adequate time to opinions that we find objectionable. Learn more about your intellectual adversaries!
- Watch obscure independent films. You will find plenty of gems that most people have never heard of.
- Create a social media profile. Here, you will be able to see what people you may have forgotten about are up to.
- Where possible, revisit your old haunts (i.e. high school, your old house, a particularly nostalgic restaurant).
