It is hard to believe that the Rockcliffe Retirement Residence in Ottawa opened its doors just a short eight months ago - the action-packed monthly activities calendar gives one the impression that the Residence has been established for years!
On any given day, seven days a week, the residents of the Rockcliffe can pick from a palette of lively activities - at the Residence itself or in the nation's capital. The Rockcliffe shuttle and Towne Car rarely sit idle - their drivers are kept busy spiriting residents off to the latest exhibit at the Museum of Civilization, to a classical music concert at the National Arts Centre, or - a Canadian rite of spring - to a pancake lunch and taffy pull at a local sugar shack!
Of course, residents could just as easily be found in the lotus position doing yoga in the panoramic roof-top lounge...or enjoying the latest box office hit at the Roxy in-house movie theatre. Some might prefer contemplating a good book in the library while others will opt for a cocktail and some cool jazz at the daily Happy Hour. One thing is certain - there is something for everyone at the Rockcliffe.
Special Spring Activities
Of course, having a full-time activities coordinator helps - especially one who is constantly on the look-out for interesting outings, musical talent and entertainment for her residents. The coordinator at the Rockcliffe has put together a great line-up of special spring activities, starting with the "Dance into Spring" dance on April 2nd from 7:30-9:00 p.m. Daffodils will be sold at the dance with proceeds going to the Canadian Cancer Society. On April 23rd, starting at 2:30 p.m, residents will be treated to a fashion show where Rockcliffe models stroll down the cat-walk sporting the latest summer collection from Tabi International.
On May 22nd, the elegant main level of the Rockcliffe will be transformed into an art gallery and serve as the back-drop for the very special "Easel Does It" watercolour exhibit. The show will feature over 60 original watercolour paintings by eight local artists. The exhibit will raise support for the Aphasia Centre of Ottawa. Then, on June 11th, the Independent Order of the Daughters of the Empire (the IODE) will host a House and Garden Tour with the Rockcliffe as one of the featured tour destinations.
