Rent for standard spaces increased in most regions province-wide, with an average increase of 4.2% overall. Gatineau retirement homes experienced the highest average rent, at $2,287; this area also has the highest vacancy rate, at 16.0%. Home care costs average between $25 and $75 an hour depending on the type and level of care.
17% of Quebec’s seniors aged 75 and over lived in seniors’ residences in 2021, a small decrease from 18.4% in 2020. That said, the vacancy rate rose to a peak of 12.8% in 2021 (driven heavily by the coronavirus pandemic), up from 6.9% in 2020 for standard spaces.
