A retirement residence has advantages in convalescent care. Communities listed below offer convalescence in a caring, professional environment. Get more details on the advantages below the list or consult the providers listed below to learn more.

The benefits of a recovery stay in a Vancouver retirement home

In a retirement home, you get a bed, a beautiful room, and care staff available. There are still more benefits:

A setting dedicated to care. Retirement homes are staffed with support workers. If the community has assisted living nurses are likely available during the day. A doctor may be on call. Medical equipment is available. Help is just a call button away. You’ll feel safer and better cared for than if you try recovering at home.

Meals and housekeeping. Have meals prepared daily and someone else clean the bedsheets, so no family member needs to worry about these things.

Activities, amenities, and company. As you recover, participate in senior living activities and get an inside look at retirement living today. (It can be an eye-opener!) There may be a pool or spa on site. You’ll enjoy the company of seniors and probably make some new friends.

Assistance if you need it. Communities with assisted living can help with bathing, transferring, and other personal care if needed. They can also help with medication administration, where available.

Convalescent care costs

Convalescent care starts at $150 a day in Vancouver. If you get care at home through a home care company, fees start at $25 per hour but are probably higher for more complex care.

Convalescent care, respite care, other short stays

Convalescent care is distinct from respite care (and other short stays) as defined here. Some people confuse these terms or use them interchangeably.

Convalescent care is a recovery stay after surgery (e.g. hip or knee surgery) or any other hospital stay (e.g. cancer treatments, accident recovery). Respite care applies to a senior staying in a retirement home for a short duration, giving their family a break from caregiving.

Retirement homes also offer guest stays and other kinds of short stays, notably trial stays. For some people, a convalescent stay can be a tryout of senior living in a retirement home.
