Benefits of living in a Christian community
Calgary Christian retirement homes offer unique opportunities to grow and nurture your faith life and belief. Consider the following:
- You will be able to form new friendships with fellow seniors who live in faith, facing the same problems and concerns as you and who have lived through many of the same things you have.
- Worship, prayer, theological discussions, and other displays of faith are welcome and encouraged.
- Care staff can be trusted to understand your faith and its importance to you, if there are situations where that is pertinent, such as at mealtime, etc.
- Many Christian retirement homes in Calgary are supported by churches or other organizations, and the monthly costs might thus be more affordable. Some Christian communities are not-for-profit, of course.
- The availability of an onsite chapel, the ready presence of Bibles and Christian books, the presence of ministers and priests, etc., are all comforting and confirming.
It’s an opportunity to find yourself in an ideal community of people the same age as you, sharing many of the same opinions and concerns. It’s even an opportunity to minister to others when they face health problems or even crises, people who are open and receptive to discussions that have a spiritual aspect.
The importance of finding the right care, first
Be sure that you focus on your care needs first. Before you commit to any community be sure that you understand variations among the different types of care. Independent living is a nice way to live but there may come a time when you need assistance with basic daily tasks that you may take for granted at this time. If you or loved one is facing Alzheimer's Disease or another kind of dementia, cross-reference the list above with a list of memory care homes.
Other benefits of living in a retirement home
Of course, living in a retirement community has many other benefits, especially the social element and the fact that there is always something to do. The nice thing about living in community with fellow Christians is you can expect an underlying faith-inspired tone to interactions. People can be expected to behave a certain way, and not "as the world goes." While it's true that many older people feel increased spirituality and ought to be expected to have a mature attitude, this is not always the case in a secular environment. However, in one of the Calgary Christian retirement communities listed above, you are almost certain to find companionship with people who “walk the walk, as well as talk the talk.”
