My husband had a massive stroke so we moved from our house to a condo near Yonge & Sheppard. He kept falling and I had to call 911 quite often to pick him up.
Whenever I went grocery shopping to Metro on Church Street, I saw Canterbury Place Retirement Residence under construction. After it was finally completed, my friend invited me to visit her relative at Canterbury Place and I really liked what I saw. After bringing my family, we moved here in November of 2014. This was the best move I made for my husband and me.
I feel like I’m a queen – no more shopping for groceries, no more cooking, no more dishes, no more housekeeping. We get plenty of delicious food served by the friendly dining room staff. One morning at breakfast, there were no more bananas. Our friendly Chef walked in to the breakfast bistro and asked me if everything was okay. I told him there were no more bananas and he said just wait a minute. A little while later he came back with two grocery bags full of bananas from Metro – I just cannot forget his thoughtfulness of getting me the bananas… I really appreciated that.
My husband needed a lot of help from the caring nursing staff – in the morning to wake him, bathe him, dress him and get him ready for the day, and in the evening to get him ready for bed.
I am so happy living here in the friendly community with so much help from all the staff and residents; they go out of their way to accommodate me with my requests whenever I need their help. There are so many interesting trips and activities, exercise classes, movies, drawing, knitting, bingo, music, craft sales, etc.
This is my home. I am living with all of my new friends and I am very happy every day!
