Restoring pH Balance in Your Body
Balancing the pH levels in your body, providing a more alkaline environment, is thought to lower the risk of sickness, cancer and chronic diseases while slowing down the aging process. It may even help you to control your weight. The acid/alkaline balance can be easily maintained through food and drink.
However, constant exposure to chemicals in medications, as well as the environment, stress, pesticides and acidic foods is thought to make acid/alkaline balance more difficult.
Use the 80 (alkaline) / 20 (acidic) rule to find the right balance for good health.
Monitoring what goes into your body will help you to find the right balance, but eating the right foods will get you even further. Here are some foods you that will help find better pH balance:
- A variety of fresh fruits and vegetables
- Nuts and seeds and their butters
- Whole grains such as millet, quinoa, oatmeal, wild and brown rice.
- Herbs
- Lemon and lime juice, herbal teas
- Apple cider
Alternatively, foods that challenge pH balance, and that should be eaten in small quantities, include:
- Refined grains and sugars – white flour and sugar
- Sugary drinks and soft drinks
- Alcohol
- Dairy products
- Red meat
- Processed food – canned, boxed and frozen foods and meals.
There are different alkaline/acid foods lists available, but we believe that when it comes to eating healthy, simplicity is key. If you eat a whole-food diet with few ingredients (and whose names you recognize), you will keep your body in pH harmony.
