Living Well With Dementia Photo Contest: Closed
Please note: this contest is now closedThere are over 500,000 people living with dementia in Canada.
For every person with dementia, at least 10 others — family, friends, colleagues and neighbours — are also impacted as caregivers and advocates. Alzheimer's disease — which is not a normal part of aging but rather a fatal, progressive and degenerative disease that destroys brain cells — is the most common form of dementia, accounting for 64 per cent of all dementias in Canada.
Because of this, there is an urgent need to increase awareness and understanding of dementia in order to reduce the stigma, and create a more supportive community environment.
You can help by entering the Living Well with Dementia Photo Contest, proudly presented by the Alzheimer Society of Toronto, in partnership with Comfort Life (a division of Our Kids Media™), and the Toronto Camera Club. Your photos will show others that those living with dementia:
- Are individuals with unique qualities and personalities, regardless of the disease stage.
- Have strengths that may include a sense of humour, long term memory, social abilities, emotional awareness and memory, and use of senses.
- Want to be included, feel part of a community, and experience activities they enjoy such as music, art, gardening, etc.
- Want to be treated as you would wish to be treated.
- Appreciate a person-centred approach to their care.
- Should be valued — along with those who care for them.
