What do Personal Support Workers Do?
A personal support worker takes care of:
- Personal maintenance and care
- Home making
- Executing physio exercises and follow up that was planned by a physiotherapist
- Observation
- Reducing the risk of falling
- Around the clock nursing if needed
- Dementia and pallative care
- Companionship
All of the staff at Alert Best Nursing and Home Care are certified personal support workers who undergo standardized certification, a police check and are bonded. With low staff turnover they are able to ensure continuity, ensuring clients are visited by the same staff on a regular basis. This continuity is an important factor in providing superior, consistent care.
The Home Care Process
In general, the home care process includes:
- An initial assessment
- Introduction of the caregiver and client. At this stage close attention is paid to ensure that the client and caregiver get along and like each other so that they can develop a trusting relationship
- A care plan is developed and charting is done on a daily basis so that family can easily identify any changes or concerns
- An in home safety assessment is done to identify any hazards in the home that may need to be addressed
