“Building communities is more than just building homes,” says Shakir Rehmatullah, It’s all part of FLATO’s bigger vision for Southgate Township and its unparalleled community engagement.

That visionary approach is quickly turning the peaceful, pleasant township of Southgate, Ontario into a retirement destination worth noting. Edgewood Suites, an adult lifestyle community there, is the latest of several developments in the town, itself a response to an urgent need for senior apartments. The company’s bigger vision is seen in other local projects. “We listened to local residents’ needs when we worked on the plan for this new community,” says Rehmatullah.

Edgewood Greens is 1,200 new spacious homes up to 4,000 sq.ft., ideal for families looking for more living space and large private backyards. It’s all part of FLATO’s bigger vision for Southgate Township and its unparalleled community engagement. They helped back a new full service healthcare clinic right in the heart of Dundalk, working with the township and Grey Bruce Health Services to make it happen. In fact, they donated $1 million to get the project underway. FLATO wants to “expand access to primary care, mental health, social and home care services for area residents,” says Rehmatullah.
55 and older adults, not only from the area, but from the GTA and elsewhere, should find it appealing to think of their retirement destination in the context of that bigger vision that’s both visionary and generous-hearted. Edgewood Suites, holding a preview event in December 2021, offers a choice between studio rentals, one bedroom, and two bedroom suites. While the suites are beautiful, the true appeal of this community will be the lifestyle.
