The Village of Taunton Mills is Whitby's unique continuum of care community for seniors offering a full range of care support levels. As the level of care which an individual requires may change with the passage of time, the resident will not be forced to uproot to a new facility at a different location - a move that often disruptive, if not traumatic. At Taunton Mills, the resident will merely move to a different level of care within the Village. Taunton Mills continuum of care will also allow spouses to remain together instead of being separate should a sudden illness occur. To help make the continuum of care concept work, our community is designed as a village. Like a traditional village, we have a variety of common areas and amenities along our Main Street and in the Village Square. However, because the Village is indoors, it remains comfortable in any weather - winter or summer, rain or shine. The continuum of care will be built in three phases.
PHASE 1 Taunton Mills Long Term Care Facility (LTC) is a 120 bed Ministry of Health licensed facility. Access to the LTC facility is managed by the Community Care Access Centre. The LTC facility will have four separate specialized care units, called "home areas".
PHASE 2 Taunton Mills Retirement Home is a 180 suite retirement home offering independent apartments, supportive apartments which offer some services, retirement suites available for those seeking some support to maintain their independence, assisted care for those who require light assistance with daily activities such as dressing and bathing.
PHASE 3 The Residences of Taunton Mills is a 50 unit seniors apartment complex for independent seniors who would like the comfort and security of being connected with the care community. Residents may choose from a variety of services including housekeeping, meals, health-care assistance. The opening of the Residence is planned for 3-4 years.
